Want to be truly successful at owning and managing a restaurant? It's no easy task and takes a conscious effort on your part every day in all key areas. 
Many restaurants and bars open and close within three to five years of business. Don't let that happen to you! When you fail to pay attention to what's actually happening with the numbers in your business, it can be too late to do anything about it. That's why I recommend that you pay attention to the details and figures every day so that you can have long term success.

One way we suggest and love to improve business is having a daily meeting or round up of staff to go over the specials, new items, sales tips, items that need to move out of inventory and answer any questions or give help and advice to staff. Keeping your staff updated on your business plan, ways to move inventory and helpful ideas to sell will all go a long way towards your successful business.

Here's what you want to be tracking on a daily basis. Only when you know the answers to each and every one of these questions can you begin to improve each one so that you have happy customers coming often, sales that give you a profitable business and a staff that is earning money and eager to stay on board and work hard.

** Customers -
          Are they coming?
          Are they repeat customers or new?
          Do they have positive experiences every time they walk through your doors so they will return, share positive experiences with their friends and on social media?
          Do you correct any complaints on the spot to make a positive experience for them?
          Do they enjoy and rave about the food menu, drinks, add desserts?
          Do they linger and seem to enjoy your restaurant space?
          Do they book your venue for their special parties and functions?

** Sales -
          Are they from food?
          Are the sales from eat-in customers or take-out customers?
          Are they from the bar or beverages?
          Are they from couples or groups?
          Are they during certain peak periods or certain days of the week?
          Are your business sales growing each day, week and month?

** Staff - 
          Are they on board with your goals, policies and procedures?
          Are they happy and excited to come to work with you and your team?
          Are they utilizing social media, family and friends to increase word of mouth to increase business?
          Do they recognize how to help customers have a positive experience?
          Do they follow your rules and not take short cuts that end up in mediocre products and experiences?
          Are they willing to suggest and help with ideas to improve overall business?

** YOU!
          Are you making every effort every day to make sure:
               Your restaurant is above the others and offers the best products?
               You or your chefs are buying fresh ingredients that show a difference in the outcome of your menu items?
               Is the restaurant clean?
               Is it an inviting space with beautiful lighting, art and ambiance that makes customers want to come and stay? Add starry lights under your bar, under counters, atop window treatments or anywhere in your restaurant that needs that ambiant glow that is missing. You'll love the look and so will customers!
               Do you show up every day and take an interest as an integral part of the business, help the staff and do what it takes to run a smooth operation?
               Are you knowledgeable in wine, spirits, beer, coffees and other specialty items to increase sales?
               Do you make sure to offer quality bar items and NEVER allow your staff to water down drinks?
               Are you making sure your vendors are paid on time, your taxes are always paid?
               Do you study the numbers of your business so that you can be proactive tomorrow and improve everything that needs an improvement?
